Finite Element Analysis or FEA is another everyday Acrokin tool and a vital part of the problem solving process. Acrokin’s FEA experience extends back over several decades, when limited computational power meant understanding the physics was critical to model setup to minimize unnecessary calculation. Today those same principles result in faster iterations and a more cost effective process.

While the majority of problems are in the linear domain quite often the stress history is also important, for example when using auto-frettage to ‘strengthen’ ductile materials, or the material properties are either non-linear or used outside the linear region. Using FEA to determine fatigue life is also important in many cases, as is modal response, crankshafts being a classic example. The FEA analysis can also use temperature based material properties where the temperature map is generated by a CFD analysis.
